The whole discussion has been interesting. I've come to believe that there is certainly a biological sex, and I would go so far as to say that technically, as Galt pointed out, you would refer to Caitlyn as "he" but I think his point was that it's only a technicality. i think that you generally refer to somebody though as he or she based on their initial outward appearance as an approximation of their sex, however. It's clear if somebody is trying to or looks female, you'd refer to them as she, only you would call them "he" if you found out their sex was male. Ultimately, I think it's just polite to call somebody whatever they want to be called. Gender is a cultural phenomenon anyway. A lot of it focuses heavily on clothing and mannerisms.
