my personal favorite is how the chechens figured out the radio frequencies for the russians because they were so god damned lazy about it and started calling russian artillery strikes on russian positions and it took them forever to figure out what was going on.

that level of incompetence from a country that was a superpower 20 years prior is just mind boggling.

with that said, name the last time the russians won a war that wasn't because of the weather, their alliance, or the fact that their opponent was some small state with about 1/300th of their population, wealth, size, etc.

i'll give you a hint: sweden was a global power.

as long as russia has existed, they have had a terrible military. their military now is terrible. pointing out that they suck at war is a matter of historical record. they've been great at subduing goat herders from central asia or relying on huge alliances to keep them afloat in wars. winning wars themselves strictly thanks to their military? that's an incredibly rare thing.

I've read lots of books. Its precisely why I disagree with you that Russians are just lousy soldiers, in some intrinsic sense. This belief that anyone, Russians included, are just bad at much of anything as a consequence of who they are...not defensible.

you're pretty ignant if you think this argument is some genetic/nature shit about russians. like if you took 30000 russian babies and raised them to be american soldiers they'd still somehow suck. no one is saying that.

but russia, as a country, has always had a shit military. they still have a shit military. they are bad at fighting wars without large alliances to make up for their shortcomings. like i said, the last time they fought an enemy that was actually a real fighting force and they weren't part of a large alliance was against sweden during the northern war. that was the 1700s. prior to that? when the duchy of muscovy got their independence from a several weakened golden horde.

it's not a matter of opinion, spider. though since you seem to think otherwise provide some examples.
