I think the world would be a better place if everybody had a gun.
Just give everybody a gun. When I walk into Walmart I see nothing but the world's brightest people. I want each and every one of them to carry - I don't care if I know nothing about them or their training with firearms. Or even their motivations for having one. As long as they have a gun and I'm allowed to have my own, I think I'd feel safer.
Imagine, going to school to pick up your toddler and being approached by teachers, principals, and even janitors plainly carrying a gun on their side. Or hell, even across their back. The propensity for accidents is only relevant when it's equal to the degree of freedom and safety that I feel when around guns as I go anywhere. At all.
If I'm at a gas pump and I have my gun on my side and I see somebody else without, I'm going to feel uneasy. Why wouldn't that person carry? Should I worry? Maybe I should be extra cautious and keep a hand on my pistol as I fill up my tank, just in case. Is that person concealing their gun? Why? Trying to get an advantage over me on the draw? What's their motivation? Do they want my gun? To take it away from me? Maybe steal my car?
That's the safety I want to feel.
