Let's be honest here: this thread is nothing more than a bunch of middle class white guys talking about how wrong-headed blacks are for not giving a shit about the "greater issues," and instead demanding change for themselves, now, after literally centuries of bullshit. The truth is that addressing the issue of black oppression ought to be the single greatest priority for any activist, anywhere in America, because in doing so you will necessarily address issues of oppression for everyone. Trying to separate the struggle of blacks from the struggle against authoritarianism, police violence, bigotry and prejudice is impossible, and pursuing true independence and freedom for black people is a necessary precursor to any long-term social change in Western society.

Saying "black lives matter" isn't arguing against a more over-arching POV, it is casting a shadow on the very instinct that informs all the middle class white guys harping on lost opportunities in this thread. Until the massive and systemic violence against blacks stops, you might as well be talking about how the Jews should shut up about the Holocaust, don't they know that some Aryan Catholics got killed too?

I think the 800 pound gorilla in the room is that this is not so much a national issue as much as it's a regional issue. The VAST majority of this stuff happens in the old confederate country. I'm not saying black people in.. New Jersey don't get racially profiled but there is a level of disrespect for black people's well being and overall lives that does not exist anywhere else other in the south.


Unless you're playing college football, they really don't like black people in Texas, South Carolina, Missouri, Florida. We're past the point of lynchings and stuff but they are still treated with a level of contempt that they aren't treated with everywhere else.


This is the main problem that the country has; then you have citizens in, LA who just do not get it. You have conservatives in seattle looking around and comparing the black guy he knows on welfare with the plight of the african american in the old confederates and it's a totally different world.


I've said this before, if you are black, and you live in the old confederate, get the f**k out. They don't want you there. They never will want you there.
