So here's what the US can do re Iran at this point:
f**k the deal. Put those sanctions back on that bad boy. Punish them. And watch market share of US interests in the country erode further while the Chinese and Russians continue to benefit. This way our global competitors benefit, Iran suffers, and they still get the fissile material for making a bomb unless...
We attack them. This, attacking Iranian facilities suspected of housing the development of weapons grade uranium/plutonium, would start the largest f**k we've seen in our lives. The region would descend further into chaos, we'd have to lean f**k hard on Saudi Arabia and Israel, and f**k pray. This would make Iraq, by comparison, look like a stroke of f**k genius. It is the dumbest idea I have seen to date. In a twist of hilarity, it would place Israel in extreme danger as well (I imagine after this attack they'd have to contend with a serious barrage of attacks by proxy - hezbollah in the north at least). I say a twist of hilarity because it's what Netanyahu has been pining for (OMG IRAN HAS THE BOMB WE'RE GONNA DIE).
OR....OR....
We pass this resolution, lift the sanctions, open the markets to ever more oil, and allow investment to take the place of military aggression. Is it a perfect plan? No. Does it make Iran do exactly what we want them to do? No. Tough shit. Get a grip on yourself and focus on the end goal: that country has a vast number of younger people that identify less with the ruling regime and more with the social norms more often associated with the West. Take your time on the country, allow the leadership to moderate, and go from there. Be f**k pragmatic about this shit.
