Should Taxes be Placed on Cigarettes?

If it has to be taxed, revenues shouldn't go into any general funds, but into healthcare related ones. But then, from the government's point of view, what good is the tax?

Cellphones and car keys are a more lethal combination then a cigarette and a lighter. At least smokers tend to kill themselves.

Since we are in a non smoking craze at the moment, becoming buddies with Cuba (and their cigars) is almost pointless now.

People will bitch no matter what. The tax on tobacco is higher then the cost of the product itself. Total BS in itself.

tobacco didn't really become widespread a la cigarettes until machine rolling began (and it was before the 50s you barbarian).

anyways, like i've said 400000000000000000000000000000000000000 times already, tobacco isn't interesting enough to risk both the hassel and the penalty to acquire if it were illegal. caffeine has a better buzz than nicotine has. it only exists today because it's addictive and cigarettes are convenient to acquire.
