I'll somewhat agree with comrade about this where bail shouldn't be imposed for 5 dollar shoplifting charges... or many types of petty charges like that. But I also agree with Philly that it should always be reasonable: high enough to get the person to come back to face charges or lose the money, and low enough so that it's something within their reach to get. i think that if someone is arrested again for another crime while awaiting trial for another crime, and the first crime was so petty that it didn't deserve bail, that upon second arrest the person then has to post bail, and that bail should be reasonable. If a third time then the bail ought be doubled, and so on and so forth.
i then also agree that a person should never be allowed to starve themselves to death in the custody of the state. he should have been hospitalized.
