The "black lives matter" supporters need to tighten their message and find an effective means of getting that message across. So far, they have failed, and a few of the more radical voices are sucking the oxygen out of what is otherwise a good message: Black lives matter, too and there is an issue with the militarization of many police forces.
On the other hand, the supporters of the police aren't helping themselves any either by drawing a line in the sand and declaring that one either has to think LE is righteous and good and anytime a black person is shot, it's because they were a "thug who deserved to die" OR one has to believe all cops are racists assholes out to shoot the nearest unarmed black man. There is a problem in this country and it needs to be addressed, but finger pointing, violence and distraction from the message are not part of the solution, so they are part of the problem.
