Outrageous. For decade after decade, schools have been bastions of introversion that punish the social and outgoing among us. Sit down. Be quiet. Work alone. Little more than institutionalised tyranny. Now, introverts are complaining because *gasp* they have to do group projects! There is a talking floor in the library! They have to work with...oh my god, other people!? God forbid these real life lessons are taught to America's youth. God forbid that the skills even bitter introverts will admit are critical to success are being taught in America's classrooms.

The rest of us are put into an unnatural and uncomfortable position every day in school by being told to sit and shut the hell up. Which is fine, that's a necessary skill and it should be learned. But so is team work, leadership, and speaking, which is why it's OUTRAGEOUS introverts want to be spared the pain of having to compete in school on a playing field that isn't inherently biased towards them.

as an introvert myself, i do think "active learning classrooms" where i had to face other students and whatnot in my desk and worked on group projects were the least conducive for material retention for myself. it was distracting and seriously always thought it was that teachers who did that had no idea what they were teaching and basically had given up.

by the way, as an introverted person it just means that after socializing with people i'm exhausted, not that i'm scared of doing it. it's a taxing thing to do, whereas extroverted people thrive off of it and are taxed to do something by themselves

the benefit of school of course is socialization as well as education. balance is key. structure where there is lecture and study alternated with a lab of working with others, such as in a science class, would be helpful i think.

While working in groups in the real world is typical, I had the worst experience doing group projects when I was in school. I guess when you don't have a true leader who can make you lose your job if you don't perform is what school projects are missing.
