Richard Roeper did a column on this back in the 80s, arguing that you don't name these guys for the same reason TV cameras don't show fans running on the field--that's what they want.

I say: let them die/rot in anonymity forever, whether dead or in prison. The only people we should remember are the victims. And you know what? We never do.

i've tried very hard to forget the name of the Sandy Hook shooter and just remember Victoria Soto's name. I think that helps. Focus on a specific victim and try to ignore the name of the killer. Easier than generically thinking "don't remember his name".
