All of you are hysterical.
Americans have completely failed to grasp the enormity of their gun problem. In the past decade, 280,000 Americans have died from guns. That's about half the rate Syrians die in civil wars. This is the result:
Galt is talking about how there are only twenty mass shootings per year. Dylan is talking about banning guns. Medius is pretending he is taking a moderate position in spite of not endorsing any gun legislation concept in the past ten or fifteen years. Indy is hyperventilating. It is routine, it is predictable, it is exactly as Obama said.
It actually disturbs me that a sitting President could get up and make a speech that perfectly accurate, and seemingly none of you would grasp the enormity of it. Obama called out the entire nation, and in my opinion, it should be regarded as one of the finest Presidential speeches in modern history. It isn't often that a President says something so very truthful. The gun debate is toxic, and that decision is intentional. Nobody wants to take a step back from their position and compromise. Nobody wants to buckle down and actually solve problems, even though it's actually pretty easy.
Eliminate registration for ordinary shotguns and rifles. Require licenses and mental health checks for all owners, no exceptions. Require record-keeping for all commercial transactions of guns, but allow gifts between immediate family members. Put massive restrictions on the possession and ownership of handguns.
It's actually not hard, America. You can legislate reasonable gun laws, all you have to do is commit to it.
