With the attempted dissolution of a lot of gender norms (and thank god for that by the way, gender roles were nonsensical and rigid and hurt everybody), a lot of cultural critics are trying to find some sort of concrete things to point towards for "masculinity" that just end up being a regionalistic etiquette or things that make you considerate.
I mean, it's still better than arbitrary shit like "a man has to work with his hands, and should enjoy whiskey" kind of thing, but trying to fill that void with pablum is kind of annoying.
