Ok I don't even know what this thread is supposed to be about anymore. I wanna go back to the start:
Why is the guy from Indy's first post an example of why capital punishment needs to go? If the argument is that we might execute an innocent man, then his is a story of the system working. He was not executed. But, as Indy noted, his life WAS ruined, because he was imprisoned for 30 years and furthermore was denied restitution for his wrongful incarceration. So the reforms that eynon mentioned early on - particularly evening out resources for prosecutors and public defenders, or even merging them into one department - seem like something that would have helped this guy out a lot more than abolishing the death penalty.
