Unraveling of GOP is actually Nixons fault.

I thought this article was a pretty decent analysis of the now-then version of the GOP, based on the impact of Nixon's Southern Strategy. It seems that the "strange bedfellows"version of the GOP can no longer sustain itself in its current incarnation, and Trumps demagoguery has only added fuel to that fire because he actually straddles between both sides of the party in a clown-like manner.

I'm curious if others think the GOP will have some type of true schism and split into multiple wings or even parties, or if the old country club Republicans will eventually regain their control (they still have all the money).

Best case scenario is the establishment GOP and centrist Dems team up and form a new party (call it the "We're Not Totally Batshit" party) and then have to play ball occasionally with the fringe right and occasionally with the fringe left to get things done. Really is best case scenario for everybody. But GOP congressional districts have been so thoroughly gerrymandered there's little chance of this happening since even the establishment guys often have to pander to the mouthbreathing GOP base to get elected.

What's more likely is that establishment Republicans regain control in the next 10 years or so. There's appetite for the idea of crazy Republicans, but in practice their antics end up being unpopular. E.g., most people blamed the GOP for the last shutdown. The public likes the idea of outsiders tearing things up in theory but I think when they get what they want they realize it kind of sucks.

Another alternative, and my preferred one, is to go door to door polling people on who their favored GOP candidate is and executing everybody who says Trump, Cruz or Carson. Would save us a ton on SS and Medicare too.

I think my second paragraph is pretty accurate analysis though. These guys will tire themselves out. Really the only big problem from the workers' perspective is wage stagnation. Make that go away and I'm pretty sure these guys will tire themselves out and move on to raging about the local high school football team or w/e.

I guess making wage stagnation go away is a tall order though. I've got f**k all idea for how to make that happen.
