I thought this article was a pretty decent analysis of the now-then version of the GOP, based on the impact of Nixon's Southern Strategy. It seems that the "strange bedfellows"version of the GOP can no longer sustain itself in its current incarnation, and Trumps demagoguery has only added fuel to that fire because he actually straddles between both sides of the party in a clown-like manner.

I'm curious if others think the GOP will have some type of true schism and split into multiple wings or even parties, or if the old country club Republicans will eventually regain their control (they still have all the money).
