hmmm... i mean, europe since it hasn't spent as much as it should on defense and as a consequence has been able to spend more on social programs, all the while pointing at america and her large defense budget when, in actuality, our defense budget is also a subsidy for the entire western world in particular. i remember seeing some cartoon about how we're making free healthcare or something in iraq and paying for it. yeah well, we also have done the same damn thing in like beligum. i dont think we're really disagreeing about that

Well, this is not to absolve him in any way but as most of you already know I hold Cheney responsible for most of this, because he was going to do Iraq no matter what and when 9/11 now he had his excuse, whether they had anything to do with it or not. It's my personal belief that the reason he tried to stuff all investigations into 9/11 wasn't simply CYA but he didn't want anything officially showing that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

Here's a thought I had today: a lot are talking recently about how OBL ultimately got what he wanted from 9/11 with where we are now but it occurred to me Cheney did too. An eternal state of war, and I can almost predict he'll be showing up on FOX any day now to rip the Obama administration as being soft on terror and only warriors like him know how to deal with the threats like ISIS.

The great irony/hypocrisy being that his total ignorance and incompetence created this mess.

The secondary tragedy of 9/11 was... the response. Let's hope we don't make the same mistake this time around.

Ok, so we destroyed Iraq's military in a few weeks. In the end, so what? How did that help us?

And it was after that few weeks that we managed to lose 4,400 American soldiers, with tens of thousands wounded or maimed for life. It violated a 101 rule of an invasion: have an exit strategy. The only strategy we did have was as you just noted: here's how we destroy their military.

ISIS does indeed have that objective but as we know now a secondary one of mass killing around the planet. ISIS is absolutely blowback from Iraq because they sprang literally from ex-Iraqi Sunni military and AQ in Iraq. Point being, if Iraq were still under Saddam, none of this would have happened.

Boo, boo, he's a bad dictator etc. we all get that--but not our problem. Removing him did nothing to advance the U.S. cause. In fact, the total opposite.

And I haven't gone into how you just removed the one counterbalance to the Iranians/Shiites in the region, another totally unintended but totally predictable consequence.
