Wait what's your source for the definition of Islamophobia? I just use it as an easy shorthand to refer to people who hate Muslims.

Oh. I don't think it's an accurate definition.
As for the rest: American conservatives have no relationship whatsoever to any previous political movements. They are a new breed. The basic instinct is f**k everybody. f**k immigrants. f**k gay people. f**k poor people. f**k brown foreigners. f**k Muslims. f**k em all. That's a solid 50-60 percent of the GOP's base right there. The remainder is fundamentalist Christians and rich people looking for tax breaks.
