She's an inspiring figure albeit a divisive one for me as well. I too think she earned person of the year but I'd say it's more for her cumulative effect over the last two to three years and what it has wrought today. For all that she has preserved and for all of the threats she's deal with, some of her choices (Like Obama's) may turn out to be for the worse. There is no greater division between her and I than that of Germany's reluctance with utilizing the ECB in a far greater manner. With pressure just recently mounting on Draghi to reserve any significant QE action for another time, every quarter is a stark reminder of just how poor economic growth is throughout the EU.
