the new star treks are fun takes on star trek but they are not star trek, correct. HOWEVER, the originals were also not hard scifi. and the new ones? they still had some fantasy elements. specifically FTL and transporters, but i guess they are more of a plot device so it's okay. still, it's no BSG... i want a new scifi, and want it to be the grittiest, darkest shit ever to come out of scifi so people can know the glory that is hard space operas like Revelation Space
the biggest downside is these movies have killed "Star Trek" as we have known. who, besides fan-funded kickstarters, are going to explorer the killed-off future of TNG/DS9/V? it's sad. (although i do know "renegades" has tim russ in it. tim russ is also in fallout 4 btw and he's brotherhood4lifem but i watched some of renegades and the production value is kinda shit. they have good makeup though.)
