i liked tuvok. chachotay was shit though yeah. while i agree with most of what you say spider, the point of voyager was as uber said: to explore strange unknown worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go. while there was one main storyline (get home) it was able to have a more episodic nature like TNG. i also liked how they got away from fantasy elements like the replicator and had to have a cook. i mean neelix is annoying but the idea of a cook and having to ration was better than "i think i want steak tonight". to be honest, i've probably only seen half of voyager episodes. i should really just watch it straight through one of these days, and then i can give you a better opinion, but while it could be said it was the weakest of the three 24th century treks, i think it's the "trekkiest" of the "treks" considering what that word means and the "mission statement" at the beginning of TOS and TNG.

^That's fair. Should be pointed out though that Voyager was tossed out there by chance. They were stuck with it.

Enterprise was "trekkiest" I think. It was humanity's first truly fast long range ship, sent out on a mission of exploration of the truly unknown...and without the aid of the magical technologies that would eventually be developed. The Vulcans were still dicks and the Klingons shot first and talked later. A lot of people hated it for lacking the high tech and the federation and everything, but I thought it was a back-to-its-roots sort of decision.

a note about data and odo, touching off what spider said.

data, as a machine, can change with physical changes to his hardware. serious change (emotions) happened with change to hardware. but i will say that he matured even without hardware changes. in the early seasons he was a child with autism, unable to understand subtlety or grasp human emotion even from an idea of seeing someone else experiencing it. after years of observing humans he was able to understand them much better by the end and could pick up on nuances from other people. but i don't know if this is really a change or just "increased amounts of data" that have made his character able to react differently. of course, whats the difference there? what is human? and there we get to the core of data's story...

as for odo, not only does he grow and change he literally grows and changes all the damn time. his very form is mutable. everything about him changes. i agree completely with spider on odo that his character did change significantly throughout the series
