You're absolutely right. But a few things I've learned in recent years: people are voting not for people they think will be good at governance but because they want to stick it to their imagined enemy, and b) candidates being truthful or their facts checking out is irrelevant at this point, and the candidates know it.
Used to be being caught in a lie could sink your campaign (remember: "I voted for it before I was against it"?)--no longer. You can lie with impunity about literally anything.
On the national level at least. Rahm here is in deep doo-doo because of his whole involvement with burying that tape of the shooting. If he were running for president nobody would care. I don't get why local medias do their job but the national media has abandoned its post.
