i don't find the idea of the 'post office bank' offensive on its face.
what IS wrong is assertions by people like Bernie Sanders that the reason it's necessary is that poor people are forced into payday loans because banks don't want them. this is incorrect, it's a choice and an entirely rational one. it's also something that would continue unless the USPSBank would have ability to give short term loans of small amounts of money.
and then you start getting into mission creep here and i get more hesitant about it.
if the post office bank maintains accounts and cashes checks i really don't have a problem with it. once it starts lending then there is an issue. people like bernie flip out over student loans paying the government interest on loans. this is the same thing, and people who don't use USPSBanks are going to be left holding the bag once we start forgiving people's uspsbank loans (which we f**k will because people are lazy and obnoxious asshats)
