we should disenfranchise people who don't pay taxes
you know, there was a hilarious post about somebody who was complaining that they couldn't go protest/rebel against the federal government in oregon:
these are the people we are dealing with. drains on society who blame society for their problems yet preach about pulling onesself up by the bootstraps. i'm a bootstrappy guy myself, but i think that the dregs should sink. this provides opportunities for the sea cucumbers among us to feast upon their corpses. but these people? they not only already are leeching off the system but they think they are owed more, and probably have in some weird way justified it all. "oh it's the government's fault, with that free trade and all. before free trade, i was a broomstick maker, and i made 100,000 a year. i had 7 cars 5 children 3 boats and a dog. i was living the american dream, working at a regular bluecollar job, making broomsticks, at 150 dollars a broom. then that free trade happened. now you can buy a broom for like 5 dollars. and they are made by CANADIANS. what am i supposed to do with my life? i've worked so hard at making brooms, it's all i could possibly ever know what to do, and couldn't possibly ever get a different skill in the 28 million places to work in this country. that's why trump is gonna make america great again. i'll get my job back at the mill, and make even more, because we'll be the only broomstick maker again."
Americans learn only from catastrophe and not from experience. -- Theodore Roosevelt
My life has become a single, ongoing revelation that I haven’t been cynical enough.
