Lots of Trump supporters have said they would support Sanders if he was the nominee and trump was eliminated and vice versa for Sanders supporters in a Trump vs Clinton scenario.

They are definitely drawing from the same well: disillusioned working class whites. Mostly non-ideological ones who are fed up with status quo.

I love how the vast majority of people (in the range of 99.99%) vote for someone based on their "messages". Bernie is "anti-corporation". Trump is "anti-establishment" or will "eliminate illegal immigration". Clinton is "for the people". And so on. You know the shtick (probably better than me, since I pay little attention to it).

But, what most people completely overlook, yet is the most important, is how these things really affect THEM. And, I don't mean in some esoteric, general way. I mean, what will it mean in your day-to-day life? How much more/less money will you make?

For me, there is one major issue on which I must resolve myself. On one hand, I love that Bernie would nationalize health insurance (yes, I know - I'm being hypocritical. But, my political views on what is best for the country don't always coincide with what is best for me personally). Why? Because there is no way that the government would handle all of that new business. Do you think that CMS does all of the work for MCaid/Care on its own? Hell no. They outsource >70% of that stuff. And, since my company does a LOT of government contracting, this would be great for us! And, I'm sure he would expand government in other directions, too. Disaster recovery, taxation, etc. All those things are areas where my company specializes. I could stand to make a lot of money from a Sanders administration.

Of course, that has to be measured against the increased taxation that would be needed to pay for this. And there are other issues. But, I find that so few people think about an election like this.

Illegal immigration? I don't give a rats ass. I can barely envision a scenario where either drastically increased OR decreased illegal immigration would much affect my life. Sure, we can think of certain consequences, but those scenarios always have so many factors, and such a minuscule final effect, that the single effect if "illegals" is almost immeasurably tiny.

Ex is right though. Lots of Sanders supporters will prefer Trump over Clinton because she represents the establishment and they hate the establishment.

Not all of them but some of them. Lots of people don't care about left or right, they're just sick of status quo.

i didn't want to believe it either. i thought trump would have been knocked out, i thought reason would prevail. but that's not what we're dealing with. but i've accepted it, i've accepted the fact that there is an insurgency in this party AND THE DEMOCRATS that support a third way different than both democrat and republican party politics. while you want to focus on the differences between bernie and trump, the fact remains they have far more similarities with each other than to any other candidate. both oppose immigration, oppose free trade, support government health care, support government welfare, etc... yes, they have some differences but don't ignore the similarities because YOU would never vote for trump. you'll be in for a shock in November if you don't get out of denial over it
