Odd that the same guy that is telling me to give up my shit so the world can be better, is the same one that is saying the world can go f**k itself in the ass with a nuclear missile, because it's better for America.
Pray tell, how am I "guaranteed" that if I give up 20% of my income today and for the next 30 years, that my son will be "guaranteed adequate healthcare, education and housing"? Furthermore, why the hell would I want "adequate" anything? I have a platinum healthcare plan. Basically, we pay $6000 after-taxes every year (premiums, co-pays, out-of-pocket), and we can go anywhere we want, and get almost anything done (including many elective procedures). Why would I want to trade that for "adequate"? Why would I want him to get "adequate" education if I can afford to send him to Jesuit HS and then on to top-tier university? Why would I want him to have "adequate" housing when he can inherit my house, plus our land in TX and the camps that we have?
You talk about nothing being certain in the future. You are exactly right. I may have nothing to pass on to him. He may be a retard. But, you have no certainties either. How do I know that if I give up 20% of my wealth for these things, that some Trump-wannabe won't come along when my son is ready to collect and get rid of the whole program? There is only 1 guarantee. that I'm making as much as I can right now. The future is uncertain, so I'm saving enough to help me through those uncertainties. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
(BTW, dad bragging for a sec - my son just got evaluated for a gifted program and was found to have an IQ of 149. Woohoo!! Daughter's was a bit lower, at 123, but still great!)
