Spider, none of us are arguing against overdraft fees....
We're arguing with creating a government bank and expanding the USPS to take on the workload....
The only times anyone spoke against overdraft fees was describing how to avoid them, how a majority of people can get out, etc. Literally time and time again anyone here who has argued here hates overdraft fees and understands what impact it has, the problem is we don't run to the government to create a program for a small portion of society then f**k over everyone because of it.
You want to prevent the issue of the poor being screwed? Reinstate teaching basic banking concepts in grade school. Fund/grant educational seminars, local organizations that help the poor and mentally disabled. You know that government provided education system we pump billions into and don't see results? There are literally thousands of private market forces and educational means to which we can find solutions for the roughly 4% of people who have never been banked and the other percentage who get screwed by banks, credit card companies, etc.
You don't solve the problem of poor uneducated people preyed on by private companies by providing them some costly, bullshit, "free" government solution. Education and accurate funding/support of local organizations will do more for a homeless bum than simply creating him an account at the USPS.
