Y'all are out of touch with reality. If the citizens are armed you must expect the police will be as well. I agree in principle though, no one, civilian or cop, should be running around with a firearm. But if you can buy a f**k ar-15 despite being a suspected (later proven) terrorist, it f**k obvious why the cops are heavily armed.
Truth is in an armed society lost of people will die due to firearm deaths. Best you can hope for is proper monitoring via cameras and proper accountability and prosecution from a non-biased party (the DOJ). Unfortunately, cops are trigger happy in part because they regularly deal with armed idiots who want to rumble with them. Coats is an idiot but he is correct in saying the police are simply a reflection of society and it's democratic choices. You want an armed society, well this is what happens in armed societies.

I don't want an armed society. I just don't want to take guns away from only Muslims and let everyone else keep gunning each other down.
