Likely won't see this Star Trek. Its Star Trek in name only, not in spirit. I hope Roddenberry is haunting some f**k over this shit.

I gave a pass on the first couple because I figured it was to try and establish some excitement over younger generations that probably haven't seen any Star Trek TV shows or the other movies but a 3rd that looks like it is Fast and the Furious in space just holds no interest to me now.

Granted, I love the Fast and the Furious movies. They're downright stupid fun. But I know what they are and they don't try to be anything other than doing absurd car stuff.

But this isn't what Star Trek was. Thats not to say that there can't be conflict and excitement but this is going too far. I predict this one doing well and the next one not doing so hot and we'll get a total of 4 movies from this before another reboot happens around 2030.

Let's face it. If audiences today had to listen to Brent Spiner and Patrick Stewart wax philosophical about understanding the human condition through the study of Shakespeare, or argue a court case to establish the personhood and sentience of an artificial intelligence, they'd change the channel before they had time to blink.

We like Duck Dynasty and American Idol now. Simpler times. A lot more breathing through the mouth instead of the nose.

I wonder what humans will do if we find the space critters have evolved beyond the need for war? But hey, we always have to kick some ones / some things ass to make the movie entertaining.

Episode VII though...that is just franchise engineering. Its a specifically and deliberately designed keystone to hold up two halves of a big ass arch. They hired Abrams to turn wrenches, which is exactly what he did.

Episode VIII, with Rian Johnson directing, will give us a better idea of what sort of thing Star Wars actually is now.
