It will be at least twenty and probably thirty years until the EU will be able to reestablish itself as a leader in any meaningful way. By then the olds will have died off and the population will support a unified Europe - assuming the EU lasts that long and we can get a handle on this Islamic terrorism thing. But I think it is extremely wishful thinking to picture any unity coming out of this at this time.

I heard on the radio this morning that the terrorist's truck was stopped at the end of the barricaded road next to the promenade by police. He presented his rental papers for the truck and said he was delivering ice cream and then allowed to proceed. If true what a major breakdown in security. You don't inspect the contents of the truck's cargo area? WTF!
