FBI Says It Will Investigate New Hillary Clinton Emails

I would strongly doubt that any criminal conviction would come of this, honestly. The bar for criminality in this would have to be pretty high, and if the review is based off of leaked Podesta emails then it's pretty damned benign.

The bigger story here is the public perception angle, of course, and while this could lead to tightening in the poll numbers, I don't think it'll do much to swing voters one way or another. This is a super polarized election cycle already, and anyone who vehemently hates Trump or Clinton isn't going to have their mind changed by this.

I'm calling a 3-5 point Clinton win, even after this story has time to sit in the public consciousness for a while.

It's not even an enjoyable spectator sport this time. Considering we actually have a reality star as one of our major nominees, this has been the least entertaining election ever, and political comedy has even been awful this year.

what i'm curious about is the timing and the vague, public letter. comey is, by most accounts, non-political. trying to ignore my bias, i can't help but think there is a political component to this.

According to Pete Williams on NBC, it's not a "re-opening of the investigation", it's just the inclusion of an additional three emails that might have relevance, none of which were withheld by Clinton or sent by Clinton. I think the letter to Congress was a legal requirement of Comey, given that he had already given testimony that he had concluded his review of the emails. Still doesn't explain why the letter to Congress was written in such a nebulous and damning way. Even if it wasn't a partisan move, it certainly looks unprofessional when it's this close to the election.

This whole thing might be even less of a story than I first thought.
