This is the beginning of a new arms race and likely cold war, hopefully that's as far as it goes. An expense we can ill afford. Adding hostilities we don't need, as you mentioned with your protectionism and market share loss statement.

So you recognise that some of what trump says he plans to do will add to this expense, but you appear to be suggesting that this new arms race is a good idea. Because with all these new threats on their borders, that will be the result. And look who is front and center, with nato being supported mostly by the US.

If Russia and China don't take this once in a generation opportunity to dramatically expand their sphere of influence and perhaps their borders they are incompetent and cowardly.

Well, incompetence is the stock and trade of socialists. The USSR went south and China had to embrace most of the elements of international trade and making big money to survive.

They both represent the same brand of cowardly that is being brandished in the world today that passes for good policy. Russia invades Georgia, Crimea, not sure of others. China bullies Tibet, Vietnam, Taiwan, etc..

In other words, they militarily threaten or worse, seriously small players on a world scope or any scope.

Oh and Russia is still not on a very good economic footing. China is better, in terms of manufacturing capability, but not that great if you examine overall economic well being.

As a once noted poster on PCF once said, 3 tomahawks on the 3 bridges dams ends the entire threat. They have to know that. That's the big stick.
