He can use the OCP to "force them to the table," but once there, what is going to be discussed? China is not going to hand over Taiwan, nor can they abandon the OCP, as an internationally recognized Taiwanese government that already asserts sovereignty over Hong Kong, Macau and the mainland is a direct and serious threat to their interests. It simply is not going to happen absent a real war. Period. End of story.
In other words, this isn't a "wedge issue," because there is nothing to wedge. The only thing that Trump has over them is the OCP, and so the moment OCP ends, so does his leverage. And then what? Maybe Trump will knock up some tariffs and destroy the global economy?
In reality, Trump has no interest in going after Chinese manufacturing, their currency, their human rights, etc. And why would he? He benefits directly from American relations with China, as does pretty much every American citizen, even those embittered factory workers who don't understand that they can't make a good living and compete with China at the same time. So, again, what is the strategic goal here?
It is abundantly clear this is just another publicity stunt to make it appear like he is "getting tough" on China. And like a typical Trumpkin, you have immediately decided this is some 4D chess shit, rather than the panicked impulse of a moron who has literally NO IDEA what he is doing.
