someone never read the declaration of independence. of course rights are absolute.
i see no compelling interest in the state for declaring parent-child unions unable to meet some standard any more than the state declaring homosexual unions unable to meet some standard
the only state interest i possibly see in marriage is the creation of a stable union that is hard to legally break for the creation and rearing of future taxpayers. as gay marriage cannot possibly meet that interest then there is no state interest in marriage, and so we have a situation where this so-called "right" is being meted out to those the state deems worthy and the state has no interest in any of it. in fact the state should be disinterested in it because of the supposed tax breaks it gives
