Do we need special agencies to handle these tasks or could other agencies that already exist in the government handle those tasks? A little consolidation could help a lot. It eliminates one more hierarchy of leadership. When we look at, for example, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Does $445 million sound like a lot of money? Who wants to take out Big Bird? However, that's almost a half a billion. Is that what our government needs to be doing? The whole list is rife with agencies that do things other agencies could do. Tell me, do we need a specific Office of Violence Against Women? Violence against anyone is already against the law. This is another half a billion.
As for your specific department agency mentioned? The Civil Rights Division of the Justice Department. That's another half a billion. They fight discrimination and protect American voting rights. Are you saying this can't be done by a myriad of already existing agencies within the federal and state governments? We all know that discrimination is illegal. Every state has these same functions. Here's a good one on the list. The Office of Electricity Deliverability and Energy Reliability. They are just a quarter of a billion.
I think the Federal Department of Education needs to go. We have local school boards. State boards of education. What is the purpose of the federal Department of Education? Are they succeeding? It's just more tax dollars pissed away that could go to the schools to run a 4,400 employee department with budget of $50 - $70 billion.
