Everybody is going ape shit because they're not sure how temporary the ban is. More to the point, just about everybody including yourself thinks the ban is inane and accomplishes nothing. So not only is there uncertainty tied to the ban but the feeling among most if not all cogent being on this planet is that the ban is pointless. And even further still - this ban helps our enemies. ISIS is having a field day with the ban issued by POTUS to support the notion that the US is just there for oil and to wage a holy war. Suppose you convince somebody that it's not an anti-muslim ban...the perception was still there to begin with. If that perception comes about freely then your message delivery is either very poor or you're just being dishonest.
And let's take this a step further because the incompetence enshrined in this move is breathtaking on so many levels. This move, like much of Trump's other political maneuvering (if you want to call it that), has made it more difficult for a once ally to approach us amicably. Like Pena Nieto before him, Iraqi legislators are proposing a ban on US citizens for entry into Iraq. No military contractors and no private sector contractors (to get all that oil because it's ours). ON TOP OF THAT, you have US Military forces working with Iraqi military forces in Mosul right now...and wtf are they doing? Openly questioning the US advisers as to why the US would do this and creating an animosity that IMPERILS US TROOPS.
Should Iraqi forces start to turn hostile on US servicemen aiding them in Mosul and throughout Iraq after this statement...expect media coverage like you've never seen.
The notion that this ban isn't Muslim oriented is beside the point. Moreover, the hilariously terrible way this was initiated and carried out only goes to prove how poorly this conceived as well as executed. It was intentionally kept secret so as to limit outside concerns (and I don't mean from us - I mean from Trump appointees like Mattis and Pompeo - two dudes also outraged by Trump attempting to bring back black sites and bring back torture).
So yeah...in the grand scheme of things this move does little to address any real problem out of the ME and does impact a relatively small portion of people living in the ME. But it does so UNNECESSARILY and in a manner damn near meant to inflict damage on US ties, US intelligence abroad, and potentially put US assets at risk in foreign countries.
Oh oh oh, and then there's the financial side. US airlines are suffering today, banks are suffering today, and f**k Goldman f**k Sachs came out against this move. GOLDMAN SACHS.
