Even if we assume that stopping Trump is the only way to save the GOP in the long term, it also would end the career of these "old school Republicans" in the short term. Take a look at these guys and ask yourself if they're willing to do that. These are the ones who already did what they had to do to survive the great purge of 2010. Don't see it happening.

As per usual, the fate of liberals will be determined by how impactful the centrists are. If the "Clinton Coalition" (need a new name now) holds, liberals will continue to lose over and over again. These people are politically incompetent and have been since the early 90s. If the party is handed over to progressives and youth, the Republicans will be crushed and, over the long term, potentially destroyed.

It really just depends if liberals can find their nutsack or not. The majority of the country supports the progressive agenda. So long as it focuses on wealth inequality, jobs, education and healthcare, and stays away from social issues and guns, it would be extremely easy to start winning again.
