Dude...you're idealizing people. Being on one side of an arbitrary imaginary line doesn't matter. The very worst experience with hateful ignorant rednecks I've ever had was that side of said imaginary line. My wife's whole family are a bunch of religious fundamentalist nutjobs who actually seem to like trump. There are no more than a dozen Canadians in all of BC who think that guy isn't an underhuman...and I find myself related to nearly all of them. Canadia is much like the US in that you'll find a larger proportion of perfectly decent sorts in the cities...and then you drive for a while and find yourself in a sprawling maple leaf adorned red state. That sounds horribly bigoted towards ruralites, but I don't care. I spent a significant chunk of my childhood amongst them and I know exactly what they are. Characterizing Canadians this way is sort of like pointing out British dental problems or calling the French assholes. Its stereotyping.
They like to think think they're different. We seem to like to think they're different. Oh, Canada. How quaint. They're polite, up there, right? lol. (Not everyone can be Massholes I guess)
But we're both wrong. They aren't different. People are just people. And N Americans on both sides of that imaginary line have grown up from the dirt together from nothing along norms established by the same cultural basis. Every time I see either a Canadian or American extolling the virtues or detriments of either/or...it's just ridiculous. Like people from North Dakota and South Dakota trying to convince themselves and everyone else that Bismarck and Pierre are so different...
