In the immediate it eliminates Assad's ability to bomb his own people with nerve agents. Sure, he can use artillery but his ability to both project power as well as drop nerve agents more accurately is greatly diminished.
And yeah, guess what, airforce just got bombed by tomahawks.

according to CNN, Russians were at the airbase hit by ~60 tomahawks
CNN also quoted a defense offical that the Russians were repeatedly warned that the strike would happen, as the US have radar evidence that the plane that launched the chemical attack came from that airfield

Nice, are we sending in missiles everytime some women and children die? Or did he simply do this to show he is tough and Obama isn't?
