Thank you, Capt. Obvious. Which is why I pointed out that by this logic the few ships that tied up for fleet week are also an "armada". Hilariously enough.

The point is that trump has no concept of any of this. He used the word armada because it has connotations of something like this:


As opposed to Strike Group 1...which is a single carrier, a guided missile cruiser, and the usual spattering of destroyers. Which is altogether less impressive looking (and sounding), and trump, being a foolish showman, was allowed to run his mouth while the Navy rolled their eyes and went about their already scheduled business of deploying said ships in nearly the exact opposite direction trump was crowing about.

It's an armada in the same sense that trump is a man. True on a technicality, probably, but it's obviously a laughable overstatement of an unfortunate circumstance.

a US carrier strike group would destroy that "impressive looking" armada with ease. a US carrier strike group is force projection unlike anything else on the planet. they are the most terrifyingly awesome amounts military might that allows for sustained conventional operations almost anywhere on earth. and you make it seem like a bunch of wooden ships is more impressive than a swarm of 90 airplanes surrounding a core of ships

Spider is clueless. A carrier group is the definition of an armada. The carrier group sent to Korea has more firepower than the entire RAF. He used armada in the perfect context, a huge fleet you send around to dominate the seas and terrify the land. Trump actually seems quite adept at gunboat diplomacy. That's the whole point of a carrier group, we park it off shore and dare you to f**k around. No one f**k around.
