Seriously though, Obamacare is a prime example. A federal law aimed at reducing healthcare costs across the country - attempting to put everybody in a pool large enough to offset given demographic challenges for certain localities. And what happens? Death Panels. Mandate.
Ok, it passes. People like it more and more (except for those looking on individual markets in population centers that are mostly old, poor, and low density). Instead of trying to fix it we get AHCA. No more pre-existing coverage. Premiums and deductibles would skyrocket for the old and the poor, and the elderly poor would essentially just declare bankruptcy and die (like healthcare before Obamacare). Goes to the Senate.
Now the Senate is trying to figure out how in the f**k they maintain that coverage without keeping a "mandate." What are they floating? f**k enrollment. How would you do that? There's no database established for the Federal Government that would allow them to auto-enroll everybody in the US. Penalties - you go off coverage then you have to pay an increased premium for a year. Is that based on a percentage of income? Left up to insurers?
Everybody is trying to dance around the fact that in order for us to maintain pre-existing condition coverage we have to get people to pay a monthly premium to cover that cost. People want what they can't have...they want the coverage but they don't want to have to pay for it. Give. Me. A. Break.
And conservatism? Conservative healthcare proposals? Are you joking? If you want a conservative health proposal you do this:
- Eliminate any and all government benefits/subsidies to companies that offer employees healthcare
- Eliminate allowing dependents to stay on their guardian's plan until 26
- Eliminate Medicare/Medicaid
Force the entire country onto the individual market and watch it work. Everything else is just a "distortion."
High risk pools? We had those...for years. They don't work. And if they do work then you're dumping an ungodly sum of money into them anyways ( Hundreds of billions to trillions ).
But because of "death panels" and "mandate" people go f**k crazy. Because in order to get what they want and what Trump promised - lower premiums and deductibles - it has to be paid for.
Incredible.
