i was expecting a hung jury, however i thought there would be like 2 holdouts for not guilty, i didn't expect 12 to reach acquittal. i went to hide my women up in the cold north through a boat-only access point in case of rioting but i think only a bunch of idiots closed an interstate
but basically if an officer is in fear for his life he can be found not guilty. castille was armed so you can't say for sure it wasn't how he felt. i think the law needs to hold police to higher standard though
if an officer says "don't reach for it" i would stop reaching for whatever it is you are reaching for. i dunno what the hell it is with some people that just continue to not listen to officers and then get shot and then we have to talk about race relations in this country. that said, why would someone who wanted to kill a cop say "i need to tell you officer, i have a gun" and THEN get it. the cop should not have reacted that way. he should not have fired. i don't even think he should have brought the gun out, but perhaps that would have been okay. he starts screaming instructions AFTER the gunfire. he got the order of things to do messed up
he's off the force now, and won't be a cop anywhere. i hope instead of rotting in hell he becomes a productive member of society outside of professions where he has the power of life and death over people
the witnesses for the prosecution really didn't do any favors. they explained how they were driving around high on drugs with a child in the backseat and a gun in the car and whatnot (not to mention, 2 broken tail lights, that is all very unsafe). like... the prosecution f**k up bad if you ask me. i listened to the guy in charge talk about how proud he was of them and how they followed the process and how proud he was of that -- after they didn't follow the process and never got a grand jury indictment in the first place.
