The statues need to be removed from public places, it is as simple as that. The logistics can be worked out. I have full faith that the American people can respect historical value while also understanding why these statues need to be removed.
Not just because no piece of public art should be causing riots, but also because the men depicted are traitors and were in many cases involved with slavery. Anybody who is at least modestly emphatic can understand why they cause offence, and why it isn't appropriate to have them represent your city or government.
