roughly a third of people itemize their tax returns. i itemize mine.
i'd happily give up my itemized return. i'd give up using the personal deduction, state and local tax deduction, and the mortgage deduction. all the above. get rid of it. it's fine with me. all of them. this is fine. i'd even be fine with increasing my tax burden. but when the wealthy get their tax burden decreased while mine is simultaneously increased? well, that's a problem. yeah i'm in the top quarter of wage earners in the US, give or take a little bit, but i don't consider myself wealthy but rather high middle class. i don't live paycheck to paycheck but if i went a few months without one i'd be in serious trouble. wealthy people can do blow off of hooker's asses or whatever and it doesn't matter because they're on a yacht in international waters and they can do whatever they want for years on end. i'm not like them, i'm still just a worker bee. and so if they get the breaks, yeah, it means middle class is getting the worst of it, especially high middle class
