Let's get back to the larger point though. The Democrats don't look at Trump at the levers of power and on any level think that just maybe decades and decades of bipartisan toleration for consolidation of power in the executive branch might have been a mistake. All they think is that they need to get that power back from Trump. Or, it seems, some would be half-satisfied even if we gave it to some other rightwing GOP monster, as long as he acts like a gentleman in public and doesn't post juvenile tweets.
The Democrats are simply unable and, more importantly, unwilling to truly stand in opposition to draconian and unaccountable concentration of power, even when it's their rival party who wields it. This is why the whole #Resistance shtick rings so hollow.
