Trump is talking to Mattis and plans are being drawn up to deploy US military forces on the US/Mexico border. This reminds me of Bush when the National Guard was deployed on the border but those guys turned out to be primarily there for support - tech and monitoring mostly (as far as I can remember). This sounds like Trump is going to deploy the 101st airborne on the US/Mexico border....

That's....weird. Also, probably expensive. Do you guys think this is a good/sound idea? What would you do in its place?

He also wants some bizarro anachronistic military parade, as if such banana republic antics have any place in the 21st century, at least outside of Korea or the hollow ruins of the USSR. It's plain to see exactly which sort of idiot he's playing to.

the military can't do anything at the border as far as i know since they can't act as domestic law enforcement.
