The country has thrived with stabl if flawed individuals at the helm. Conflating that brand of inadequacy with the Trump administration is wrong.

That said at this point i give Bush the edge on damage to America. There is still time for trump to theoretically redeem himself or for some other event to make his presidency less ab albatross for the future than it needs to be.

In any case, the frustrating part is that resolving and preventing these issues is a relatively straight-forward affair, from a technical perspective.

Pass a law requiring that all President Elects must put all of his or her assets in an independent blind trust. Pass a law forbidding any sitting President from holding any office other than the Presidency during his tenure - yes, that includes sitting on corporate or charitable boards, and it also includes leading your political party. Pass a law requiring all President Elects to submit their income tax statements, in full, for the past ten years. Pass a law requiring all President Elects to undergo a comprehensive physical and mental checkup by a panel of doctors (and forbidding their personal doctors from sitting on that panel).

Unfortunately, these simple things won't be done. If the Democrats were serious about the things they attack Trump for, this would be the first thing they do once getting a mandate in the legislature. But as many here have noted, they are more concerned with expanding the power of the Executive.
