What a joke this whole thing is. A complete media charade.
First of all, if you get arrested, you will be separated from your kid. This applies to all American citizens and its done for a good reason - you shouldn't be putting a child in adult detention facilities with other adults, even if their parents are there. There are hundreds of kids every day separated form their parents when their parents commit a crime and are arrested. This isn't some thing to punish illegals, its the way the law operates for everyone, American citizens included.
There is also no other solution. You have 3 choices: (i) don't detain the parents, (ii) detain the parents and the child together or (iii) detain them separate. 1 is not an option if you are serious about enforcing the law on the border. Trump is right, if you don't want illegals to be detained and arrested for illegally crossing into the US, then change the law and make it so that its not illegal. but that would expose what comical position some of you seem to have (aka don't enforce the border). 2, I've explained why this is a bad idea and why this won't work. We have passed federal laws to prohibit this precisely because so many abuses and wayward things happened when the government was detaining children with adults. You will pretend this is the obvious solution but also will be the first ones screaming when a child is raped by some adult they are sharing the detention facility with, or when we put them in detention with unrelated smugglers pretending to be their parent. 3, is the obvious solution. Now I agree it seems the the execution of this could and should have been done better, they should be able to provide beds and shit for the kids at least. And they should be reunited with their parents at the first opportunity once legal proceedings have finished.
But Trump's actions are clearly legal and clearly constitutional. You all are also incredibly f**k naive. There is a reason the number of migrants with children has boomed recently. It's a legal loophole and adults have no problem using children, including their own, to achieve their aims. I do feel bad for the kids because they are not culpable here, but the parents certainly are. They knowingly chose to try to enter the US illegal, and in many cases knowingly put their children at risk of separation, and even worse. I don't feel bad for the parents one bit and if you really want to talk about child abuse or violating someones rights, ask what would happen to an american parent who put their child through something like making a trip across the desert to cross a guarded border illegally. I think the government should take your f**k kids anyway if you are that reckless with them. But that's neither here nor there, just another obvious sign this is a completely political issue and you all are getting wound up over a predictable and legal application of US law, simply because you hate Trump.
Here is an idea...who is volunteering to take one of these kids in? No one? Well then surely we at least have a tear to shed and a dollar to spare for all the american children forcibly separated from their parents when the parent commits a crime? oh, not an issue? Lmao funny how these things never are an issue until Trump does it.
DON'T BE A TOUGH GUY. DON'T BE A FOOL! I WILL CALL YOU LATER.
