There are plenty of solid technical arguments to make and the issue is far more complicated than most understand. Mexico doesn't help by permitting unfettered passing through to the border

. But prosuecetorial discretion exists and should be exercised judiciously when children and misdemeanors are involved. Could be exercised a lot more in general but that's beside the point.

Ignoring the consequences of changing enforcement for illegal entry into the US hasn’t turned out well. Perhaps before utilizing such discretion one should weigh the pros and cons of a given change in policy?

Changing it which consequently results in this and then getting mad at people who are furious with the results, direct or indirect, doesn’t make a whole hell of a lot of sense.
