and yes, this is the post-reality age. when you can't trust what your eyes see anymore, because software can alter photos, and when you can can go on escapist adventures on computers and now... in full VR... it's only natural that we come to a point where facts are deemed irrelevant for politics. i mean, it's terrible, but its there. the only way out is by grounding on facts, which i don't think we'll get to until we crash hard into reality. social media is an existential threat to the western order, but at this point i think it's more like how climate change is a threat to the environment: massive problem we can't or won't fully acknowledge because to do so would require genuine systemic changes that we are quite possibly incapable of enacting
