That’s past and present. I don’t think he has any real convictions other than seeking public praise and money. And hating on China.

with the qatar blockade and the yemenese war, perhaps saudis are just a little stressed. and perhaps they are worried that not being "strong" against criticism will lead to unrest at home. seems like the spring will findly come to saudi arabia. which means either the house of saud will fall and the peninsula will balkanize, or it will be violently put down and blamed on liberalization of laws for women

I don't think this is about pride...this is a friend stabbing another in the back. People react to that differently on occasion but overall the response is pretty negative due to the betrayal. Of course these other state actors are fine with kissing up - they have no standards and no understanding of a previously friendly relationship with the US (as in ally). Moreover, European leaders have no incentive to bend the knee because Trump has fully mobilized their electorates against him and the US.

Canada is balls deep on the US experiment, whether we like it or not. Europe is not. I don't expect EU and UK to have balls, thus completing the balls to balls connection of white guy Europe-North America. I do expect America to not be a f**k gay person pansy flower of paradise about this. Are we democratic liberal societies or not?
