Insulin was developed with public money and was to be free or dirt cheap. What happened to that? My guess = greed. Greed will be the ultimate f**k of humanity is my prediction, Kinda hope its wrong, but I doubt it will be.

public money? free? dirt cheap? what are you even talking about? insulin and how it acts was discovered by a canadian but the original extract method was to kill cows and take their insulin.
the first synthetic insulin was in the 70s by private interests, and the newer analog insulin was again by private interests. insulin is a biologic that requires creation of insulin producing bacteria to make it. this has health and safety guidelines above and beyond grinding up something and putting it into a pill. this costs a lot of money. brand names also carry higher dollars, and the new analog stuff is a lot faster acting and was only introduced in the 90s
